Spartak Khachanov is a multimedia artist, political refugee, and artist in exile currently residing and working in Helsinki. During his asylum-seeking period, he lived for two years in the Vantaa, Finland refugee center. His artistic practice explores themes of political instability, war, migration, and nationalism, employing a diverse range of mediums including sculpture, installation, painting, graphics, photography, land art, video, animation, and sound.Following an exhibition during his studies at the Kyiv Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture from December 2018 to January 2019, he faced escalating threats to his art, life, and well-being from far-right forces in Ukraine. These threats began with a professor at the Academy and extended to nationalist groups, notably the notorious C14, which endangered his safety. Artists at Risk (AR) intervened, relocating him to Helsinki, where he served as a MOBILE Resident at HIAP until January 2020.Throughout his 40 years, Khachanov has been displaced three times and is now a fourth-time refugee.Consequently, themes of war and migration have been integral to his life since birth, continuing to influence him deeply. He has been practicing art for 12 years. His/Her first professional exhibition took place at the Union of Artists’ venue in Kyiv in 2013.Date of birth: 17 September 1984Place of birth: UASR, BakuEducation: 2011-2015 Sculpture, Bachelor of
